Discover the great Yawarfiesta tradition in Peru
Back in 2005 when I first entered to the Apurimac region, I remembered I stood up a long time staring at the strange statue in the small Plaza de armas de Cotabambas, a remote village at 12hours bus ride from Cusco. It was representing an angry bull with a huge bird ridding on his back. That was the first time I heard about the Yawafiesta (Blood Fiesta in quechua).
This peruvian celebration is visually spectacular and spiritually charged of meanings. Looking at the impressive condor, the largest bird in the world, “fighting” the bull is something unforgettable. Check out this photostory below done in 2008 to get a feeling of this unique tradition.
